MSN Messenger - how to use Webcam?

Hi
On my new Advent Laptop I have managed to download Messenger and I have found out how to turn on webcam by pressing F7 and a little blue light appears at top of screen.
However, on my last PC I was then able to see myself on the monitor!
How do I do this? or is it because I have not set up anyone to speak to yet (contacts)?

You won't be able to see yourself in messenger unless you are in a chat or if you do the test/setup which is on the tools menu under setup audio and video (press alt to show the tools menu)

Thanks a lot! Have found test set up and can now see myself on monitor.
