Cutting back a hedge I found a hammer in the middle of it. The head is a solid rectangular block, 4 inches x 1 3/4 inches.
Was it designed for some specific use?

Could it be 'The Hammers Football Club'?
Not for hammering tent pegs in then? Do you need a rubber mallet for this then?

The posts from SirR + Dee Sa reminded me that a local chemist, less than 100 yards from where I live, was robbed by a thug just before Xmas last. He threatened staff with a hammer before making off with drugs and a small amount of cash.

definitely a club hammer, although I have heard the heavier versions referred to as 'lump' hammers. Usually found in masonry trade.
