what are the best sights to visit in new york over3 days? Also is there a pass you can get which includes the ferry to ellis island and statue of liberty and a trip up the rockerfeller?

It all depends on your interests. My wife and I were in New York for 3 days (in 1989), but I'll briefly tell you what we did. Our principle was to see as much as possible of the city, so we decided to spend as little time as possible inside buildings. We took a helicopter ride over the city. We went to Central Park (didn't have time to see all of it). We went on a bus tour of NY, which included Chinatown and Harlem. We did go inside 2 buildings: UN building for a guided tour, and Empire State building for the view from the top. So, we spent a lot of our 3 days just walking around, following one of the Lonely Planet guides.

The 'top 10 tourist attractions' link would take 3 days to cover. Top of the Rock is really no big deal. Better to go wander around in Central Park than to stand on top of a building looking down at it.

If you do want to go up the Empire State Building and/or the Rockafeller Centre book your tickets online before you go - it saves a lot of time queuing when you get there. Grand Central Station is worh a visit too.

my husband has had a back op and he cant walk too far even though its worked a treat. we are going at the end of sept. i wondered what were best pass deals if any for that short period and if any fast tracks included. we were told the 'rock' is better than the empire state building for a view and cheaper or free? and we would like to have a view at some stage. lve looked at going up the statue of liberty to the crown but too many steps and quite low for a tall guy (with a bad back!) wouldnt mind a bus tour but dont want to be duped into buying tickets that then dont give you value for money. any recommendations maybe on ticket vendors online maybe?

If you like shopping as much as me, don't forget to visit Bloomindales, Macy's, Barneys, Saks, Tiffany on 5th Ave and FAO Schwarz.

Also visit Grand Central Station, Magnolia Bakery on Bleecker Street, Ground Zero and as the others have mentioned, Empire State and Rockefellar.

You will love it, it is an amazing place. Have an amazing time.

Bloomingdales, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Empire State (more fun if you go at night IMO) Grand Central Station. The Circle Line boat tour is a great way to see Manhattan. They`ve opened up the Statue of Liberty now as well. You could catch a show - Cirque du Soleil is showing at Radio City at the moment.

politely disagree with dr b: you can wander round parks in many cities; you can't get a view like the Rock's or Empire State's anywhere else but NYC. Metropolitan Museum, Museum of Modern Art are good if you like that sort of thing. Broadway show? Get tickets on the day from TKTS inTimes Square or (a lot quuicker) South St Seaport. Take a launch cruise right round Manhattan. Shop - stock is pretty different from shops in the UK, generally a bit cheaper; Macy's and Bloomingdale's are popular.

Was that the Sunday brunch at the revolving restaurant on Times Square? I went (I think it cost about $50), but was worth every cent. The food was incredible. Definitely worth going to if you're there on a Sunday.
BTW if you go up the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller centre) you get the best view of the Empire State Building. I went up the Empire State at night and the Top of the Rock in the day (it also overlooks Central Park).

use the hop on hop off tour bus from Times Square you can get a two day pass and do the boat trip.Start early as you can.
