Tinnitus

To save me trawling blindly through Google results and the usual sites where it is claimed I can buy a remedy, can anyone tell me if there is any progress being made in an attempt to cure tinnitus? I have suffered this for over 2 years and my GP is sympathetic but can only say I have to live with it.
The noise in both ears - like high pitched electrical interference - has become louder lately and distractions I used, such as always having music or radio on is no longer helping and at times I feel I will go mad.

I have to say, coriandor2 that this link took me to exactly the kind of website I was trying to avoid. A typical American site which goes on and on about how tinnitus can be cured with a string of phoney testaments about how people are cured, culminating with book offers at a cost. I am not so gullible as to believe this horse-s**t.
I am looking for bona fide, clinically tested results, if there are any.

Just been - couple of months ago - to see local ENT specialist who told me the same. Live with it

Stress down and don't think about it. No known cure

Even went as far as an MRI of the inner ear but nothing showing as amiss Even found a single grey cell too!!!

I know just how you feel Tinkerpuss having this awful condition for years, mine is anything from the tide coming in to a jet engine,had all the usual tests ect like yourself but there is very little to help,nothing appears to work.I find some days are better than others.If it's any consolation you are not alone with this problem,and it's better than the alternative of being deaf.g.
