No

unless he watches LIVE TV on the internet

(live being shown at the same time (or close to the same time) as it is being broadcast on normal TV)
A TV license is essential if you are using any equipment that is able or equipped to receive a BBC signal I believe.

I'm sure I will be proved wrong though.
See!! i told you, Chuck just types faster than me!!! :-(
It's not Ratter.

I could get BBC live on my laptop but I don't and they'd have to get a court order to prove it. There's also no way to watch TV on an actually telly in my place even if I wanted to you. You just go on to the TV license site and you can fill in a little form to say you won't be obtaining a TV license as you don't need it. They haven't visited us yet.
Stupid distraction by coffee and pastry this end too...
your dad is ok to watch dvd's and he can watch any of the tv catch up's without a licence so long as they are not live

please see email i got from tv licencing

Ok,Ok, im wrong!!!!

I knew I should just stick to the stuff I know. That reduces the field a bit!!!!

vodkancoke just tell them you ran it on its own battery if asked
>>If you're covered by a valid licence at the address where you live, you'll be licensed to use any device powered solely by its own internal batteries outside the home too. <,
Thanks Dr Filth, I was totally unaware of all that! How stupid am I?? lol

thanks all. he's not watching tv on it even though he's on the net and probably able to watch bbc iplayer or whatever.
vodkancoke the bbc don't make it easy for you as they want as much money as posible from people
Booldawg if you read my link and my email you will see that he can watch the bbc iplayer to catch up on programmes legally without a licence
The confusion by many just underlines what a daft tax this is. And all the expense and fuss trying to catch dodgers. (Not to mention the persecution of those without a TV at their place.) My tax would be better spent on other things. If we wish to fund a national TV company then the government should just earmark a budget for it from general taxation.
So how could they detect if someone is watching live TV via the internet?
