plastic container to cook cake?

I have a plastic cake mould type thing. It came with a 'bake you own christmas cake' one of those everything in one box jobs for the supermarket shelf. I was going to bake my cake tonite in the usual metal tin when I found this plastic one, I am sure I am remembering it right it was used in the oven this plastic one and is oven proof does this sound right to folks? I remember using the same type years ago to cook a cake in a microwave as it was microwave proof.

Could anyone confirm?

I have looked and I can't see reference to allowed/not allowed in oven?
Are you sure that it's really plastic? Silicone cookware looks remarkably like plastic!

Test it with some boiling water if it distorts then I wouldn't risk it... if you do use it don't use a recipe that needs a high oven temp... I've had these in kits before and the hottest recommended temp was about 180degrees C

I used a metal tin in the end I doubled the mixture so it is a huge cake it has been in for an hour on 150 degrees cent and its still not cooked??

it was 12 oz of butter
12 oz sugar
12 ox flour
6 eggs
what type of cake is it...a sponge type should be done but a rich fruit cake could take up to 2 1/2 hours

150 isnt very high for a cake, they are normally baked between 170 and 180, it could take 1 1/2- 2 hrs....a 2 egg sponge normally takes around 30-40 mins

well it said 180 for two sandwich tins but mine is fan assisted so and cooks fast plus the size of the cake double mixture and all in one tin, I didn't want it to cook too fast on the outside so I reduced to 160 but got worried it was cooking too fast and reduced to 150, there's a lot of smoke but there is a pool of oil underneath the cake - from the cake which I think is burning, I have put some grease proof on top to stop the top burning
I have a fan oven too what..the? and I usually bake them at 170 and they turn out fine, time to time i, like you, have to put greaseproof over them. If you are cooking it at 150, just leave it until the skewer comes out clean
