Calling all christians: God and Miracles.

I beleive that a situation that occured in my life recently was bought about by the power of God. I was wondering how many other people have actually witnessed the power of God in our time, or a road to Damasca's experience?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.mimi, non-believers often do things they don't really want to - because their sense of morality or ethics tells them they should. The irreligious have morality too, you know; they just don't believe it comes from above. (They would say it comes from their parents, their education, and their own observation of the world.)
I don't honestly believe really that anyone is totally irreligious jno, it's just that some haven't defined their direction or are still searching . I waited till I'd reached the very bottom of the pit and no way of getting out - not the best way, but it changed my life.
The 'answer' thing is different for everyone and because he is a personal God it will happen in a way that's right for us. For instance if I ask for guidance in buying a new fridge, (He's interested in every detail of our lives!) I first have an idea of what I want so I do my homework, but the one that's right for me will usually have money off for some reason ....and my husband will also pick the same one. That is a more trivial example but it's the same principle for all answered prayer. Another way is confirmation through other people or a passage in the Bible that will 'jump up at you'. God is not predictable so we have to be alert - something I find very difficult :-)

I wasn't only referring to moral things; things like, I feel like I should move jobs because the atmosphere on the trading floor is such that I am ashamed to be here, but then if I do get out the city and change jobs, my salary might ddrop by about 30K. I can't imagine many non followers of the faith giving up a very well paid job because the atitude at work is all money money money.
And other things that bear nothing to morality: I think I should cook a meal and take it over to mrs Jones, I ve a feeling she might feel very low today, even though Im really tired myself and coming down with something etc etc etc but the prompting just doesn't go away and so you cook mrs Jones a chicken casserole and when you get there you discover she has been in a car accident that morning...
And yes El D, in my experience god does not only deliver money off or bogof, mostly the things that God gives us come for Free!!
When we were first married, we were really short of money, and I mean short. One day I had no cash, no food no nothing in the house and a 2 year old waiting for her dinner. All I could do was pray, I didn't have anyone to help me and my husband was at work so that we would still get paid on pay day. I prayed and prayed and prayed. Cried and cried and cried, and went to the park with the baby cos that's free. Carried on praying.
When I got home, somone had put 50 through my letter box with a card that read, God has his eye on the sparrow, how much more does he care for you. Lots of Love.
Still to this day, I do not know from whom the money came.
Tell me there is no God!

If I could follow God's answer's perfectly and never deviate from the divine plan and always do the perfect thing whether directed or not, I would actually be God; so in answer, no I don't have a perfect life, and I don't always follow the plan perfectly either. SOmetimes I make mistakes like a regular Human being. Sorry to dissappoint you, Mr El D. If "come and be a christian and you shall have a perfect life" was an actual truth, do you not think more people would be christians??? perhaps you hadn't thought that far ahead in your haste to click that "submit my sarky comment" button.

That's not what I asked, I asked whether following the directions god gave you would lead to a perfect life. How is that a sarcastic comment? I was merely intrigued by the idea that god guides you ergo his guide must be perfect ergo if you follow it you would have a perfect life. You acknowledge you cannot always follow this advice, however if you could would you be perfect? This wouldn't make you god btw.
Also curious about why god doesn't make his directions clearer if it is his intention to help with all things. Any ideas?

Hi all, first time here but feel blessed to have found you. I came to Christ 6 years ago when my brother was healed of a brain tumour. Had a Holy Spirit encounter at his hospital bedside and had to stop running away.
Mimififi, I have to tell you my situation at the moment. a week and a half ago I gave in my letter of resignation at my job as I felt (and still do) that God was telling me to do so. I am not loosing my marbles, am not crazy and was in a very good job company car, laptop, mobile etc)
As of yet I don't have another jo, have a flat to run and a loan to pay and no savings. But you know what I feel more peace than I have ever felt in my whole life. I am on a new and exciting voyage of discovery with God at the helm.
Your posting about the money coming as an answer to prayer is just what I needed to hear today. I have my eyes fixed on him that made me and know that with trust in him all things will turn out fine.
So thanks again...... and God Bless you ;-)

El D I don't always follow the plan or am able to hear the plan perfectly because I get in the way. the me part of me that wants to do things my way often gets in the way and as I said, the fact that I am human and therefore not perfect means that I am unable to do the perfect thing.
I guess if I did follow God's plan to the letter every minute of everyday, then my life would be perfect, but not in a worldly way. I wouldn't have a million quid in my bank account, a penthouse flat in Docklands a partner that looked likeBrad Pit and perfect well behaved children. I would have the peace that comes from knowing that I am doing God's will. As Blessed one said above: she has a peace and yet she doesn't actually know the plan yet, now that's what I call faith.
I feel like Im in a similar situation with my hubby. He works 25 hours a day for an investment bank int he city. Good wage, all the trimmings that go with it inc 24 hours access to the co via blackberry; and yet all the time we are trying to work out if this is God's plan for our marriage and our lives. I hardly see him during the week and yet nothing else ever comes up, nothing that would match our mortguage anyhow. So you see, following the plan perfectly and having a perfect life, I guess the answer is yes you would, but probably not in the way you think. P.S SOrry I called you a doughnaut.

I forgive you my child.
So let me clear this up because I'm getting confused here - god doesn't want you to do it your way?
I have to confess this is one of the things about xstianity that bugs me. People whine and whine about what's wrong with their life without ever taking action, taking control - and here we have a tailor made excuse for people to sit back and be a slave to circumstance. Don't sit and pray, don't worry yourself and punish yourself through guilt, take responsibility for your own life. You don't need divine intervention, you just have to believe in yourself. Not happy with the current lifestyle - you change it. Mortgage too big - you change it. Want to see your husband more - you change it. I bet within 6 months you could make all these things right. All these things are down to you, people are so powerful all you have to do is take action and MAKE it happen, don't sit there like a lame duck waiting for the ax to fall or the light to strike you - believe in yourself and make it happen. Or alternatively, sit there and pray, and maybe it will never happen and you will think god desires you to never see your husband and go through life unhappy. All I want is for people to believe in themselves and not pass responsibility to 'x' because it's such a damn waste.
phew - just like the good old days.

you are forgetting El D, dear, that I have tried it both ways. I have tried doing the people power thing, making my own choices blah blah blah, but I have also SEEN the power of prayer and the power of God. THings that have happened after fervant and I mean fervant prayer, things that could have been a coincidence, but frankly would take a massive leap of faith to assume so.
I have seen things happen to me and to people close to me that can only have been the intervention of a personal God. My consultant still doesnt know why I didn't die 10 months ago; 7 years ago, it was a mystery why my son was thought to have been downsyndrome in utero and then in futher tests (and im not talking US im talking amnio's) was found to be perfectly normal; why my husband has survived countless redundanies in his department, the whole department was axed and he was moved out into another to avoid it; the only one in the whole department. Why a family conflict that could not be solved suddenly righted itself within 1 hour.....???It is difficult to convey the impact of these situations here as space is limiting, but believe me please, I bear witness to so many 'miracles' that I can no longer cast any shadow of doubt upon the power of prayer.
people power is so substandard in comparison.....give me a God led life anyday he is way cleverer than me.

I wasn't trying to be arrogant. I'm sorry you think me so.
I was trying to convey my passion for what I believe with hard evidence that I have witnessed.
(One thing I do know, is that you are a cheeky monkey.) And not like you to give up on a debate...maybe you feel unable to counter argue, people who feel out argued often resort to insults.....;-)
