Oh gawd don` get me on the flying variety, my mum once had those come in under her gas fire it was dreadfull.
B&Q sell ant powder - will kill them overnight.
But a small bottle of Nippon, and this will be taken back to the nest and will wipe out the colony.
I mean the contents will be taken back not the bottle itself,,,,,,,I thought I`d better get that straigh before tonyted picked me up about it
dont use nippon, it feeds the bleeders!

above ground they are like termite mounds, below ground they are a maze of tunnels you would see little piles of sand in the cracks and either side of the paving slabs
ants make great pets
White powder is best, just sprinkle it round where you think they are,a warm day is best when most ants are foraging they have to walk through it to get back to the nest, they get used to nippon and eventually leave it alone.
Use a antnav.
"ant stop" from b&Q is good, spray it lightly where they are getting in and they take the poison on their feet back to the nest and kill it.
Believe it or not, the best way is to leave a mound of sugar near where they are all coming from. Although they love it, it is actually poison to them. I saw a neighbout do it and thought she was mad, but the next day not an ant to be seen!
whatever you do dont squash them they get angry and the queen produces more
