I'm looking to download audio books to an ipod. don't mind paying although not a fortune as on itunes store. Has anyone any good sites that you don't have to pay a monthly fee like audible.co.uk. I only want to pay one off payments for the books i want and that are relatively simple to download.

Apparently there are ''text to speech'' apps for the Ipod. That way you could download the free books, such as those on Project Gutenburg. Try Google, or maybe there are enlightened ABers who could tell you more.
Out of copyright books read by amateur volunteers can be downloaded free from http://librivox.org/
