celebrating a milestone birthday..
6 Answers
How have you spent milestone birthdays? I have one coming up in a few weeks and i'm feeling a bit odd about the whole thing in general.I'm turning 40 and it only seems a minute since i was in my 20's. :O/
as for the actual celebrations,me and my bf and little boy are going away for a holiday over my birthday and i'm not really one for wanting a fuss made of me but i feel a few people want to mark the occasion with me so i'm thinking about the usual meal and drinks after we get back. what have you done to mark your big birthdays?...

Went out with my dad to a darts match. Although I wasn't officially in the team, I'd normally be asked to play in the place of an absentee, otherwise I'd have to wait until after the match to get a game with someone. I wasn't asked to play in the team and I never got a friendly game either. Boring! :(
21st birthday (night before):
Went to a restaurant with my parents. We were the only customers all evening and the food was mediocre ;(
21st birthday:
Returned to college after the Easter vacation, looking forward to a big celebration with my mates. Half of them had got there so early that they were already too p!ssed to join me (even though I was paying!) and the other half didn't arrive back until after closing time. I had one drink with a guy I hardly knew and didn't really like! ;(
30th birthday:
A few drinks in a pub with friends. I saved a VERY large glass of whisky (paid for by several mates collectively) until the end. 10 minutes after closing time (but still within 'drinking up time') I looked for it on the table, only to find that one of the bar staff had cleared it away (and the landlord refused to replace it!)
:(
40th birthday:
I can't recall it! Probably just in the bar of the local community centre.
50th birthday:
I invited all of my best mates to a Moroccan restaurant in Norwich but only two could make it :(
(However it was a very pleasant evening!)
60th birthday:
Ask me in 2013!

For my 40th birthday, we had a fancy dress party. There is nothing like dressing up as a fairy to make you forget that you're 40! and 40 is nothing these days, I didn't celebrate anything since by doing anything special - as OH says, age is but a number, I find if people know how old you are, you get compartmentalised, so I don't tell 'em.
