Hi,

I just find out that I have to pay penalty even through I was informed I will not.

I asked my find to drop me off at Luton Airport few months ago.
He gave my a lift, and at the airport, where traffic was as always,
on roundabout I decide to leave the car as my flight was due...
I know, i did wrong, i should be shot dead at the site, I know, I owe you my life.
But instead few weeks later my friend (car owner) received letter with penalty.
As it was my fault (the traffic, raoundoubt bad design solution, and no information about possible penalty)
I called to office. One other thing was dates on latter was wrong.
Penalty was for date we weren't there, maybe even letter was send before 'this' has happened.
So i asked this lady, and when she pot it, she told me it is mistake,
so no further action from my side are required. I asked for written confirmation of this conversation.
My friend never received such a confirmation.
I left UK (health issues). My friend too (his father health issues).
So now... You could thing everything is OK.
But isn't...
I just revived call from my friend, he told me some people send him a letter with over 200.00GBP penalty.
So I have to pay it.

I know service in UK is bad.
Virgin broadband or 3moblie best examples.
One thing you you get on the phone other in reality.

I did like my UK experience to some point.
But when you get your number...
You staying a number.

Could someone please help me?
I would like to get number to this office, this lady I spoke the other day.
I have no reference number or tel number, lost paper work during moving out.

What should I do now?

As bednobs says, your friend has got a letter. On that letter is a telephone number. Ring your friend and ask him for that number.
also, how could the letter have been sent before it happened?

As the friend was driving the car he is the one liable for the penalty, not the OP.
The letter your friend has got will have an address on. If no telephone number, then write to that address
How did the penalty office get your friend's address if he has now left the uk?

Thanks.

1st) Lost this letter during leaving place we lived.
2nd) Case was that dates didn't match time when it happens.
Date on paper work wasn't right, so this was reason for cancelling penalty.
Apparently there is some law.
I told the lady about dates, and she said something like this:
oh yes, i see.. No penalty than. Our mistake.
I asked for written confirmation.
She said she will send it, and have to do nothing.
So she didn't send anything.
My friend lost letter.
And now someone trying to execute much more money.

It was simple at the time.
But now is strange.

Or is it normal?
Maybe there is a standard way of charging more,
by tricking people, by delaying and misleading...
Maybe there is more such a cases?

To be honest, I really though at first, that this is way of
giving warning. I was really scared I have to pay some 40.00GBP.
And i remembered not to asked friends for this ever again.
I used couches later on and stayed night at airtport.

But now... I don't know what to think.
Hello, Hello, are you reading the answers?
GET YOUR FRIEND TO GIVE YOU THE DETAILS ON HIS LETTER AND CONTACT THEM!!
I know a few people who have received penalties for dropping people off at the roundabout in Luton Airport - It's an eighty pound fine for the DRIVER of the vehicle. Why people don't just go to the drop off point and pay the pound is beyond me. The number for Luton Airport Customer Services is 0901 226 1692. Good luck

Thank you all for help.

This is regarding to some answers:

-LETTER
No letter. Lost... Disappeared.

I will pop in to UK from time to time.
Work remotely, at least I'm trying.

I'm not wishing to cheat on anyone.
Not my thing.

I asked him to give me a lift.
I left the car (cuz all cars stops in traffic at roundabout and I was in hurry).
So if anyone I'm to blame.
I spoke with this lady too.
Now I wish I record it somehow..

Regards to my friend's correspondence address.
It is active, as he wishes to come back to UK some day.

Thanks for phone number.

Thanks to all.

Reg to second letter, with new penlaty.
Is not luton airport people.
It different company...
They are not intersted in talking, just money.
It sounds like an unenforceable civil penalty. If so both you and your friend should ignore it and any further correspondence.

If it's a police/local aithority matter then pay.

for future reference, I've seen that they now offer a free 30-minute waiting period in the Mid-Term Car Park just prior to the runway bridge on the approach road.
I have collected people from Luton on many occasions and picked them up on the roundabout. So far no such penalty notice issued. Is this a new thing then? The drop off zone at the terminal used to be free for 15 minutes (like Stansted was as well) but now they want £1 - OK not a lot but why move the free drop off to the medium Term car park so passengers have to hike their luggage quite a distance to the terminal. Illogical I say. All about extoting extra money out of travellers and their friends/families!

£1.00 rule they must learned from RyainAir's get your seat first.
('reasonable' as long no more than 10% passengers buy it..)

What about getting to checking gates than?
Is it same RyanAir 'priority' ticket or new Luton's priority one.

Soon you will have to pay for:
£1.00 for using circle in roundabout (£1.00 for each one),
£1.00 for using revolving doors,
£1.00 for using toilet,
£1.00 for using stairs,
£1.00 for using 'fresh air' at longest (at any airport I know) quing (aprox 400 people) to the 'terror gates',
£1.00 for plastic bag for liquids (so danger these days...),
and all these great inventions can give even more money...
So why not...

If you don't like it,
you can stay in door,
watching TV peoples's service (you have to pay for)
which will never lie to you.
No need to learn the world from your own experience..
(so poor at some places LAuk for example -LutonAirportUK)
not so expensive, that for sure.

ugh...
