Found out today that where we live they don't add flouride to the tap water. Is this a good or bad thing? Is there anything my children should be given for their teeth or is toothpaste sufficient? Thanks.

Dave.
From the NHS website:
" Children up to the age of three should use a smear of toothpaste with a fluoride level of at least 1,000 ppm (parts per million).
After the age of three, they should use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste containing 1,350-1,500 ppm of fluoride.
Children should be supervised when brushing their teeth until they are about seven".

Welsh Water don't add fluoride to your water simply because the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority hasn't asked them to do so:

Welsh? West Midlands? Herefordshire seems to move around a bit!

Or you could read this article which, you know, examines the evidence

we gave jno jnr fluoride drops in his drink pretty much from birth. He is 28 and has never had a filling. His parents, who grew up before the fluoride era, cannot say the same.

Thanks all - I will check out the flouride levels of their toothpaste(s). (PS - Buenchico, it's very odd round here, the local post office has the opening times displayed in Welsh and then English and we are definitely not in Wales.)
Did you know that fluoridation chemicals were once used as pesticides?

That they are registered as poisons under the 1972 Poisons Act, in the same group of toxins as arsenic, mercury and paraquat?

That there is considerable evidence that it does not reduce levels of tooth decay.

Although fluoride is scientifically classed as more toxic than lead, the Government allows 20 times as much fluoride as lead in drinking water.

The fluoride added to drinking water isn’t the pharmaceutical grade stuff added to toothpaste.

It’s hexafluorosilicic acid derived from an industrial process... It comes from the pollution scrubber liquor from factory chimneys Basically it's a hazardous industrial waste that is illegal to dump at sea.

It also contains small amounts of impurities such as lead, mercury, beryllium and
arsenic.
