relocating a gas and electric meter
6 Answers
We are as having some building work done which will involve relocating both gas and electric meters. Does anyone know who has to do this work, the national grid website is not at all helpful. I know that they are very expensive for this work and wondered if corgi registered (for gas) are able to do this work. Similarly for the electric meter, can any properly qualified electrician do this

Any Utility Infrastructure Provider can make the changes to your gas meter.
General information, from National Grid, about moving your gas meter is here (together with relevant links):

It should be noted that National Grid have sold off parts of the gas distribution network. Depending upon your location you might now be within the areas of one of these companies:

There are seven different groups controlling electricity distribution in the UK. You can find the correct one for your area by checking the links in the panel on the right of this page (but the information should be somewhere on your electricity bill anyway!):

Thanks for the information, who would have thought it would be so complicated, it would appear that national grid can do the whole job for the gas meter at a cost of £1100!!!! You can arrange for some of the work to be done yourself but they charge £400 just to disconnect the supply and lay a new pipe and that doesnt include any digging. Outrageous. The electric meter apparently has to have the power cable done by the local electricity company but the meter itself by the supplier - totally ridiculous the whole thing.
