Hello,
I have worked for Tescos over six years and just recently they have hassled me about saying l will have to work a friday night. l work monday to thursday at the moment and working a friday night instead of a monday night would affect my life considerately.They say they care about their employees but if l dont work the friday night they will sack me. I usually enjoy working at Tescos but since all the grief they have given me I feel ill.

Do you belong to a union anne? If so I would see them about it and make sure they know you are feeling unwell because of the hassle they are giving you. It depends on your contract with your employer as to what they can or cannot do, best to sort it all first then "hit them with it" if it's in your favour.
Unless you have strong reasons (such as caring for a sick relative or childcare issues) I think Tesco probably have flexibilty clauses in employees' contracts which they can enforce.
You could raise agrievance but it may not succeed.
Have you tried looking at other remployers which may not require Friday night working? It sounds as if you no longer have respect for your employer so maybe it's time to look around

hello, l had respect for my empoyer before all this started but respect as to work both ways and Tescos dont respect nobody but themselves. I like working with everyone at Tescos and jobs are hard to find but I am trying. As for the union they tryed there best but they could not do nothing.
what does it say in your contract? are the days you currently do the ones that are written in your contract because if not then they can change your days to suit, alot of employers especially retailers such as tescos asda and morrisons trade over 7 days and need flexible staff, so as i the case of me when i worked at morrisons i had specific days on a contract but was expected to work other days as and when needed, check with union if unsure but check the wording on your contract too
this is a tactic many employers use to try to off load staff they would otherwise have no legal chance of getting rid of, but their target may not be you, are they also making similar attempts to make other employees change shifts? They have to give you 12 weeks notice if they are changing working patterns anyway
