Woke up yesterday with raging pain and very swollen face. Abcess. Been here before so called dentist who arranged prescription for anti biotics which I started straight away. Massive pain all day which which paracetamol could only ease a bit (can't take anything stronger). Last night was counting the last 15 mins until I could safely take the next dose and go to bed when suddenly the pain disappeared and I could put my teeth together without hurting, like somebody had flicked switch. Slept through the night and woke to no pain! Wonderful. But swelling has doubled and my mouth is almost 45 degrees to my ears! How could the pain, which was more than I could stand all day, just suddenly disappear. I'm grateful, but should I be worried (especially as the swelling has increased)?
At a guess I'd say the tooth nerve has either died off or 'retreated' but you still have a big ball of pus and infection there so must continue with the antibiotics and then get the tooth sorted once the infection has been cleared.
Thanks. It was a recurring problem, so a few months ago had root canal treatment. Looks like it hasn't sorted the problem though. I was mostly intrigued by what suddenly happened to the pain .....
Thanks Sqad. Pain gone but swelling increased ... I'll keep taking the pills, and should just be grateful to be released from the pain and not be asking why am I no longer in pain!
