I end up with sore scabs. Its just basically scratching the head and sometimes you will scratch too hard and get a scab which you then constantly pick so it never heals. They don't hurt (except on the odd occasion) or properly bleed or get infected, they are very small and not deep.
I mostly don't realise I am doing it - like people who chew their hair or bite the inside of their cheeks etc.
I sometime stop and they go away but then I start again.
last time I stopped and they healed completely was for my brothers wedding an I knew I would be having my hair done. It was very easy to stop - though I did have to keep reminding myself not to - so its not like an addiction or anything.
Its never done any lasting or serious harm fortunately - no bald spots etc
It probably is a bit like worry bead or stress toys.
