help with vet bill
one of our dogs has been very ill and has spent 3 days in the vets hospital wing, has had several scans been on two drips and lots of other medication as well, the bill will clean out our bank account, will the pdsa help with this or do they only help if the animal is in one of their hospitals?

Hi cecil39, I don't know if this will be any help to you but when my retired greyhound needed dental treatment last year, my vets put me in touch with the Blue Cross who helped me with the bill. I think it depends on your circumstances but they helped me with £50.00. I haven't got phone number etc now but your vets should have it.
I was able to get help from PDSA some years back but the animals had to be treated in their clinic.
I'm afraid that this is one very good example as to why per owners should have pet insurance - a decent insurance policy would have paid out most of the costs over the excess - do you not have any pet insurance (I'm just wondering if you have it but may have overlooked it, in your anxiety about your dog's illness)?

It is very unlikely that the PDSA will fund anything now after the animal has been treated.
The vets will want to do their best for the animal and as said may well be able to arrange a payment plan for you if you speak to them as soon as possible. To all those that keep saying insurance - not all animals can be covered, older animals / rescues etc can be very hard to find cover for

thanks everyone, i agree about pet insurance, but my oh is quite elderly and could not be convinced it is a good idea since someone told him that vets charge twice as much if you have insurance, so he decided that its all a con and wouldent have anything to do with it, he might change his mind now, bit late though.
