Probably down to where he did it rather than what or to whom. Personally I would have made it 3 months.
No........going into the Houses of Parliament, Select Committee Hearing and stuff a cream pie in the face of an interviewee.......6 weeks, he will only do 3weeks.

I agree with scotman.

I would rather see him doing 6 weeks of hard graft community service. What good will a six week gaol sentence do. Prisons are overcrowded. The bloke is an idiot, not a criminal, not a danger to the public. He deserves punishment, but not in prison.
6 weeks is ridiculous.
Instead of prosecuting this crime the time and effort wasted on it should have been used to ask why someone was allowed to carry out such an attack where one would have expected security to be far more stringent!
IMHO he's paying the price for making the security at the House of Commons look rather feeble, not for attacking Murdoch.

I think community service woud have been more appropriate. and the same for Mrs Murdoch who retaliated.
and I copy that view too, philtaz.
He should be serving his sentence in a pie in the face manufacturing plant,in the face testing department ( his face of course). This is an 8 hour day with a pie every few minutes.

2 issues here.
1) Security of House of Parliament
2) Physical assault on a witness.

I agree entirely about your points re. security, but would you not think that physical assault needs addressing? or would you let him off?
other post says two weeks.
Oh that was his name was it.
Yawn. Betcha your average Joe Soap being hit by such a pie wouldn't result in such a punishment.
Cream pie / physical assault. Sort of degrades the term "assault" doesn't it. One will be accused of assault for putting a hand on someone's shoulder next. Or maybe poking their tongue out at someone.
A bit silly really when you get real criminals escaping prison sentences.

The Tiswas team would be in for life if it's 6 weeks per pie..No wonder the Phantom Flan Flinger remained anonymous.

Think a caution would have been adequate.
He was merely carrying out something that many would have liked to do , on a man who in my view is a total scumbag.
