It won't run on XP.
Uninstall and download Firefox 4 from here:

Put Google into Bookmarks then each time just open it in new tab by right-clicking.
Or when you open the new tab, just click the 'house' icon.
Click on the Firefox tab at the far left hand side.
Click Options - Options
Then in General put google as your home page.

Many thanks for all your answers!! As I would prefere to have "one action" I think I'll be prefering hc4361's answer.
Please help hc4361! I don't have a "firefox tab" on the left hand side, and nowhere does it say options! Please can you do a screen dump and then upload the pic to show me where you mean?? Many thanks again in advance : )
What version of Firefox do you have?

I have given the instructions for the latest version 5
Could also be the version of OS you have. It wont work with XP apparently.

Ok. many many thanks to everyone, won't do that as it's hubby's laptop and he's a bit techy about it!!! far be it for me to alter any significant settings/do anything dramatic like delete a programme and reinstall it!!!! I think I'll do as "I'm lost again" suggested and hit the House Icon each time. Have a great week all of you and thanks again! : ) Mitchell
I'm typing this on FF 5.0 on an XP machine...

Anyway, get https://addons.mozill.../addon/tab-mix-plus/. When installed (will need to restart FF) go to Tools>Options>Tabs>Tab Mix Plus Options>New Tabs>Load on new tabs and choose Homepage, then apply. Only useful if you only have one home page, though!

The extension has loads of other useful tweaks, too.
