Mainly by being a bird and being in contact with other birds who have it. For a human to contract it is extremely unusual and you also need to be in contact with infected birds and extremely unlucky. Some of the incidents of humans contracting it have been from drinking uncooked avian blood and in one case from sucking the mucus from the nasal passages of a fighting ****.
