Shocking to see the other side to the Maldives

Did anyone see the programme holiday hijack showing the Maldives ? It showed you the things the locals on other islands have to do for the tourists . Its shocking how much rubbish they have to get rid of for a few tourists on a luxury island . I feel a bit guilty now because i have been to the Maldives but i have to say the staff were amazing and deserved to be tipped

Hi mickrog , no they don't have rubbish tips it's just all dumped on an island where they live , they have to burn all the plastic bottles and containers that we bring over it's a right mess. Just to keep tourists in luxury . It was a good show

I don't understand why they don't separate waste at source by having separate bins on all the islands, in the villas etc, to save those poor people having to sort through piles of crap...

I saw that...and the first program in Goa last week. I was quite impressed. It's better than it sounds...really makes you think about what is really behind all those luxury resorts. A lot of suffering for some.
