How do piles manifest themselves? How do you know if you've got them? What action can you take to remedy the situation? It's for a friend, like.

Its always for a "friend"!! Usually constipation, pain behind and blood on the toilet roll after it's been used. These can be remedied by a change in diet. More extreme symptoms have been described as "a bunch of grapes falling out of your a$$", where the veins protrude and must be pushed back in by a finger (leave it to your doctor!)
