This may sound like a complete 'blonde' question, but can you fit your wiper blades upside down/wrong way round?

I bought some Champion wiper blades for my car and when I fitted them I noticed they were quite a bit longer than the ones already there. But both Halfords and garage I went to looked up the size and it's the right size. So thought maybe previous owner didn't fit the right size.

The reason why I ask about fitting them is that they make so much noise and drag along the windscreen so I was wondering if anyone had any advice. As they're brand new and a good make I wasn't expecting them to do this and it's driving me mad. Could it be that although manual say they're the right size I should get a smaller size?

Hi hf, well it is usually not possible to fit new wipers the wrong way and if they are standing with the rubber part touching the glass at around 90 degrees they should be OK.   Also make sure that only the rubber part is touching the glass and that under no circumstances is any metal or plastic support touching the glass.

If the above is OK then It may be the glass itself is coated with grease and dirt which the old blades slipped over but the new ones drag on.  Try putting a good quality windscreen liquid in the washer bottle and use it a lot for a couple of days and see if that helps.

If it were me I would also clean the windscreen by hand using windscreen cleaner and a cloth etc... but this very hard work.
