frisian
Looks OK
Is that the eact clue or does it say something like "Sounds like cattle islands"
Frisian islands do exist.
However the cattle are spelt Friesian
Maybe the word can be spelt both ways. The usual spelling is Friesian but google throws up quite a few for Frisian- I'm not sure if these are misspellings or a genuine alternative
factor30 frisian is alternative spelling http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisian
Yes Frisian is the spelling for the language/ethnic group but in your link is the spelling not still friesian when it comes to cattle?
I'm happy to have got it wrong, though
I cant make my mind up but it looks like Frisian has become synonymous with Friesian in general use and that is what the quiz compiler has done
Well the first link tells me nothing new

1. a native or inhabitant of Friesland or the Frisian Islands.
2. the Germanic language most closely related to English, spoken in Friesland and nearby islands. Abbr.: Fris., Fris

It doesn't mention cattle.

i'll look at the others. I'm sure you are right and some do spell the cattle as Frisian- I'm just saying it's not common and I haven't seen it.
The third link for Frisian doesn't mention cattle either:

"Frisian [ˈfrɪʒən], Friesian
n
1. (Linguistics / Languages) a language spoken in the NW Netherlands, parts of N Germany, and adjacent islands, belonging to the West Germanic branch of the Indo-European family: the nearest relative of the English language; it has three main dialects
2. (Social Science / Peoples) (Linguistics / Languages) a native or inhabitant of Friesland or a speaker of the Frisian language
adj
a. (Linguistics / Languages) (Social Science / Peoples) of or relating to the Frisian language or its speakers
b. (Placename) (Linguistics / Languages) (Social Science / Peoples) of or relating to Friesland or its peoples and culture
It could just be a FUBAR :-)
kayakamina may know if he/she sees this
