Hi Bobbi - I know you are from Newcastle and I have been following Catherine Cooksons adaptations on TV as I have read all of her books. The one book that was her best was called "Katie Mulholland" a real masterpiece - however this book was never adapted. Since you are from that part of the world would you know why? Have a nice time in Bulgaria - I do hope it is not too far up in the mountains as I myself aint a good climber. Enjoy the guinness too in the plastic pub hahhahaha

Hello Conn, not really too sure why there was no adaptation of this particular book, a lot of the 'shoots' are taken not far from here in a place called Beamish, also up in Druridge Bay on the Northumberland coast,
I will be having a good time thanks :-)
I have just spoken to my friend via Skype and she says their little village shop is reminiscent of Arkwrights in Open All Hours, should be fun...
If they want a tram shot they always go to Beamish museum. You can often see the Sun Inn in the background - a real pub frozen in time at 1913. Unfortunately they no longer charge 1913 prices!
haha Mike I was a bit disappointed when we went in to be charged todays prices!
but very relieved not to have had to visit that Dentists..LOL

Don't be drinking too much of the slivovitz, Bobbisox. It makes you dizzy for some reason...
If you had a few glasses you might need that donkey to carry you back down the mountain.
and I don't need that to help me Sandy...:-)
I doubt we will be going that far tbh, it's in a small place called Banya but the self-build does look very impressive
I liked the Coop at Beamish, where they have the system whereby when you paid, your money was placed in a little wooden container and launched on a pulley system to a cubby hole where the cashier would extract the money and return the change by the same system. I can still remember them in use up until the mid-fifties.
me too Mike, I love going to Beamish, the landscape around there is beautiful, did you go down the mine?
Yes, although I only ever went to Beamish when I had to take school trips, so it was more in the line of work for me. If I remember correctly the mine is a walk-in one - not quite the same as going down in a cage as I did at Seaham.
yes this is true, I went down a mine in SA,,,scaryeeeeee!
Awww we had a lovely day at Beamish last year when we went on holiday to your neck of the woods. I'll not forget the dentists in a hurry either! I really loved wandering around the little mining cottages too with their Peter Rabbit gardens.

We stayed not far from there in a holiday cottage on a sheep farm. Beautiful coutryside, the nearest village was called Lanchester.

We had a day in Newcastle, another on the coast, visited Durham, Hadrians Wall and much more. Oooo we packed it all in!
