Windows Live Mail not always sending and receiving

I access my Hotmail emails by using Windows Live Mail however recently it isn't always sending and receiving my emails. Sometimes I have to close it and then open it again for the emails to come and go.
Any idea what the problem is?

Or if not, is there a send/receive button somewhere on Live Mail that I could use instead of having to close and open it?

Thanks.

In Windows Live try:
File
Options
Mail
General

The half way down click on "Check for new messages every" and select say 5 minutes.

You are likely to have "Send and receive at start up" checked but maybe not the one above.
I forgot to say that there is a Send/Receive icon on the tool bar under the home tab. Its in the shape of an envelope.

Sorry for the delay in replying Maidup and thanks for your answer.

I checked the settings but I already had it set to checking for new messages every 1 minute.
I think I maybe have a different version to you? I don't see the envelope symbol for send/receive (or the home tab for that matter!)

I found the option to have a 'refresh' button on the toolbar. Might that do it?
1 minute is ridiculous .. change it to 5-10.
Live mail will fall over itself tring to authorise itself to get mail before it completes last check.
I have come across this before.

Thanks Albags, I will maybe change it to 5-10 minutes.
Although that doesn't explain why it has started having problems recently because it has always been at the 1 minute setting.
