Would they have coped?

Is nothing sacred in Britain today?
I wonder how the over indulged low life, who committed these acts of vandalism, on a London blitz memorial, would have coped all those years ago, when the peoples of London and other towns cities and villages in Britain were driven into these air raid shelters, to endure many hours of bombing, night after night, after night.
Perhaps if they had equally suffered such life threatening experiences, they may have developed into much better human beings than they obviously are today?

He's that scumbag who helped the suicide bombers . I think he's the cousin of George Galloway who also sends his greetings and suggests you join him on the Iranian TV Channel Press. You would make a perfect pair.
He and his party Respect were kicked out at the last election . Why don't you restart it ?

Modeller,
Why are you trying to say I am a friend of Gadaffi when I am not? Your accusation is cheap. I pointed out that this monnument to civilians may have been vandalised by youths of Pakistani origin because we kill children in Pakistan. You can accused me of being on the side of our enemy (the Pakistanis are on our side) for highlighting something you would rather not know, but that is my theory why it was daubed with 'Kill the Brits".
If you have another theory why this vandalism has taken place, why not post it here?

Modeller,
I am not anti-british and I have not been anti British on this thread.
I do not agree with our involvement in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan (Pakistan) but neither do a lot of people on the right as well as the left of the political spectrum.
My view is that Blair took us into Iraq illegally, and I do not consider it to be anti British to object to that. Cameron has got us involved in Libya agai for no gain to us. In all places we fight, we mistakenly kill civilians.
Since when has objecting to innocents deaths been anti British?

Gromit; just revisiting this site. The War memorial was erected to honour civilians who died in the London Blitz, it is a sculpture of a dove at the Hermitage Memorial Park Wapping. I don't really need to say that it is sited near Tower Hamlets, but damn it I've said it. The graffiti has included the words "Kill the Brits" which is quite enough for me. I hope they get the low life who does this sort of thing.
I can stomach most things but the defacing and dessecration of ANY such memorial in ANY country makes my blood boil.
There are even memorials and grave sites in countries such as Iraq, Libya etc dating from actions in WWII and prior that have NEVER been interfered with by the local population.
Anyone who writes 'Kill The Brits' and does not believe themselves to be British are welcome to leave these Isles by the nearest possible route at their earliest opportunity.
Rant over.

It is not a war memorial in the tradtional sense. It is a piece of public sculpture honouring the people of the east end during the blitz. It is no more sacred than the memorial to Stephen Lawrence, which is also continually vandalised with racist graffiti (strange I never see any posts whenever that happens, but I suppose he was just a black).

I detest ALL memorials. I find them totally pointless and a waste of space. (I've ripped the markers from my parents' graves to show that I mean what I say). Once you're dead, you're dead. That's it. Nobody should care about you. Nobody should grieve for you. The past has gone. (I've also urinated on the Sheffield war memorial countless times. That wasn't as a mark of protest though; it was just a convenient distance from the pubs!).
Anotheoldgit's post seems designed to perpetuate the myths about the Blitz. The Government and the media colluded to suggest that everyone 'was in it together', while hiding the fact that looting and other crime reached record levels during that period.
Forget the past. Look to the present and the future.

Shame that you urinated on the Sheffield war memorial but I guess that's the irony. Good men and women fought and died to do their best to ensure freedom and democracy for future generations.
There doesn't have to be sackcloth and ashes grieving but there's nothing shameful in remembering the brave deeds and intolerable suffering of others in preventing tyrrany.
Maybe that's why German servicemen when undergoing their national service are taken to former concentration camps as part of their curriculum.
