I am pleased to see Jamie Oliver has won 2 awards for promoting healthier school dinners. Our school dinners years ago were far healthier than they are now. We had fish and chips on a friday the rest of the week it was meat and veg. With all the busy mums I think its great that kids will at least get one good healthy meal a day. I know its got a long way to go yet but its a start.

I remember the old school dinner system, when all meals were cooked on the premises and they were never as bad as comedians made them out to be. Crappy school meals became a bit of an urban myth and kids didn't seem cool if they had them. I also remember having cookery lessons which seemed more beneficial than today's preoccupation with calorific values and the like. I don't want to understand my food like some kitchen therapist, I just want to enjoy eating it.
