patio door locks

I've got modern double patio doors with yale locks - the type where you lift the handle up, turn the key then the handle cannot be depressed - the door is locked. This works on the right hand door perfectly but the left hand side is different. (this is the side with a central panel attached to the door which swings with it when the door is opened to give completely clear access.) I can lock the RH door perfectly, and when it's locked the handle cannot be depressed. When I lift the LH door handle, the bolts shoot home into the frame, I can turn the key (but not as far as the RH) and the door is locked. But, I can still depress the LH handle. The door doesn't open. I'm sure at one stage both handles were fixed when the door was locked. Or have I lost my marbles and that's how they work.? Any help gratefully received - thank you.

The left hand lock is broken. Of course with the central strip there that is the most awkward one to change too!
Call a locksmith, could be £120 to £220 for a replacement espagnolette.
