Laptop problems

Having problems opening attachments on emails. Getting message saying "This file does not have a programme with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel" Ihave been on this and its so full of gobbledy *** instructions can any help with instructions for an idiot on these sort of things.

Do you know what type of file the attachment is? Different file types have a suffix which shows the type of program you need to open them, eg .doc for Word files, .jpg for graphic files. Look at the suffix (the bit that follows the dot in the file name), find it it the folder options and create an association of that type of file with a program you have on your computer.

Hi Vallaw, It says unknown file type. I can open the email in question on main pc but not on laptop. I can open previously opened attachments on laptop but not the one in dispute.

What program does it open in on your main pc and do you have that program on your laptop?

recently I was trying the Open option on a file and getting nowhere, then someone showed me that if I clicked on the View option I could read it.

Microsoft publisher is that what you mean, I haven't got that on laptop, wouod that be why?

Yes that would be why. Try the view thing, it might work. Otherwise, you'll need Publisher.

Thanks both, I looked for the view option but don't have it, will have to use both laptop and pc.

You could always try opening it on your pc, saving it as an HTML file then sending it to your laptop.

Be careful opening files that are unknown to you Carandrog! they may be corrupted & virus-ed
