USB audio upgrade

Also called Creative Soundblaster.

Anyone recommend these, as I would like to transfer my old vinyl records over to my computer, so I can play them on MP3, and also burn CD's to play in the car. I'm not particularly worried about trying to get better quality from the recordings, although removing any scratches might be useful.

Dsg - this might be good, but I have an old Hi fi syetem, and don't really know how to connect this to the computer, so that was the idea behind the "USB audio upgrade" - are you saying I probably don't need this?

The Magix software comes with leads to connect your old stereo/turntable to the soundcard on your computer. I use the headphone socket and this connects via two phono plugs to the computer. The software has various cleaning, de-clicking and enhancement tools to tidy up the recordings - it really is easy. Subsequent CD burning and/or conversion to MP3 files is also covered in the software.

Thanks Dsg. Your original answer prompted me to look through the software which came with this - my new pc, and I may even have the necessary already. Time to go look through all the manuals, and read the software help pages!

Have a look here. This talks about tapes rather than vinyl but the theory is the same.

I've done this with tapes and didn't spend a penny. You can use the audio recorder built into XP and converters downloaded for free from www.download.com You just need to connect your hifi to the line-in of your soundcard.
