Fat free diets
12 Answers
Has anybody had any success at losing weight by cutting out pretty much all fats from the diet. Ive been prescribed Orlidtat by the quack which are 80mg tablets rather than 60mg from Alli or adious or other over the counter fat busting pills.
Obviously im watching the sugars, carbs and calories but my priority is fats.
If anyone has any suggestions, comments (good or bad) etc, i'd love to hear from you. I appreciate i should just cut out the crap, have smaller portions etc etc but they just haven't worked for me.
many thanks

We've evolved to have a varied diet, and whilst I can understand the desire to have a quick initial drop, at the end we need to be happy w ehave a diet we can live with for the rest of our life; and cutting out all fat isn't going to achieve that.
If smaller portions haven't worked for you then are you not going to creep back to your heavier weight as soon as you come off the diet ? Ultimately you need to train the mind as much as the body.
But don't let me put you off your kick start.

try seeing a hypnotist. i had a small degree of success doing this. managed to lose about 1/2 stone and my brain was defo retrained for a while, but unfortunately the bad habits crept back after a while. don't let me fool you into thinking its an easy fix though, you still need to exert your willpower. it just seemed easier to do this after a couple of hypno sessions.
Diets don't work.
I would never go on a diet if I was seriously worried about my health and a low fat diet in particular.
Fats are an efficient way of storing energy and are certainly needed for the absorption of certain vitamins A,D E and K. Yes, you will lose weight but this will be mainly due to muscle wasting as many people on fat free diets will cut out meat etc because of the fat content.
This may well lead to tiredness, depression and poor concentration.
If you are over 45 years of age and "big", you always will be over 45 years old and "big" and will never be over 45years old and slim.
My advice........eat the same as you have always eaten but in smaller amounts and take regular exercise such as walking or swimming.
Don't make a martyr out of your desire for dieting...........it doesn't work.

Thanks for your help everyone...looks like ive had some bad advice from the quack then !!!
I'm 45 on friday and put on 7 stone in the last 7 years since giving up smoking. Im now 21 stone.
I have an active job...im a head gardener so always on the go. The last thing i need when i get home from doing 9 hours mowing, hedge cutting, weeding etc is to go to the gymn and have a bowl of lettuce.
if i was completely honest, my biggest downfall is probably real ale !!! Maybe i need to have a complete rethink.

why not take a look at the rosemary conley low fat way of eating- i agree diets dont work but eating healthy lower fat foods really does help with weight loss - i gave up smoking and put on weight - the only way i could lose weight was following rc plan. decided to try & lose weight for holiday last jan & by jun had lost 21 lbs in a fairly painless way and am now about right weight for age and body type. Dont cut out all fats. Its amazing the amount of the right kind of food you can eat and still lose weight (the slower the better)
be careful with those tablets - my friend had them and i'm sure the doctor has told you about the undesirable side effects if you do eat much fat. as for fat free or low fat - i was stuck with this when i had gallstones, but couldn't eat fruit or veg either, so lived on jacket potato, dry toast etc (but could drink lager oddly enough!) - not very exciting, but i did lose a lot of weight.- the supermarket cheap brand products often have less fat in than the low fat versions too so watch out for that. have tried going fat free since having the baby to lose weight, but doesn't seem to work anymore. good luck with it all - sure the doctor wouldn't have given you the tablets if they didn't think it would help.....
