A Libyan rebel, who had been risking his life to free his country, was asked on television how he would like to see his country develop. He said he would like it to be like England, which he thought the best country in the world.
'People there are free to say what they like without fear.'
Do we take our liberty for granted?

I think we do - most of us have never known anything else.
Do we have as much freedom as we think we do, i wonder.
Having lived in China, and been to Libya and several countries like these two mentioned, a simple yes is the answer.

A late "good morning all". Unfortunately many foreigners have no real understanding of what democracy means. A Russian friend of mine, seeing the peace campaigner`s tent and virulent poster outside the Houses of Parliament said "Mr. Putin would know how to clear that. I am surprised you allow it".

Libya: I recall seeing the Colonel in his hey-day when still passably good looking; he was on holiday in Tunisia, surrounded by a group of heavily armed beautiful maidens, a la James Bond. Do you know anything about them? That was 30 years ago, so presumably their allure has faded somewhat, but I do believe he continued the tradition with younger stuff every now and then.
