Which bit of my question did you not hear?
Everything - like the clue - Not all of us take The Guardian
Sorry ...... is the clue 'in grid'?
because weve not got grid in front of us and therefore no idea what your on about!
Please give the full clue and we can try to help.
May I? This is a double-grid puzzle with the theme "Potter", which has various meanings...

In Grid 'A', the clue for 27a is "12's prince softly?" (5) (indicated as a "themed" clue)

The answer to 12a is 'Half'
Beautifully explained, thank you.
Apologies - with the correct crossing letters, the pattern is - H?R?Y
hwfa - I have the same problem as you - for consistency with 14a and 19d(grid B) I think it must be Harry - the clue states "12's" without specifying the grid ie half quid? which may(or not)be relevant.
Sorry - I forgot, then lost the thread... :-)

"12's prince, softly?" refers to 12a in Grid 'A'

'Hal(f)' - no 'f(orte)' = not loud, so "softly" & 'Hal' = 'Harry'
