Criteria for being a celebrity

What qualifies someone to be a celebrity, this comes from my curiosity into catching bits and pieces from Celebrity Big Brother i've heard of Jedward, Kerry Katona, the speakers wife but the rest who are they they have cheek calling themselves celebrities.

They've done something which means that some people have heard of them (but loads of people haven't).

I find it very sad that some kids have an ambition to be a celebrity these days, nothing more. People like Tara ParaTomkinson, who appear to have nothing to do with their lives except Be, and be photographed.

I think a lot of them are created by the media who tell us they're celebrities to sell papers etc

I haven't watched any of BB since the re-opening of the BB doors, I don't know most of them either... so it is a complete mystery what constitutes a as being a celebrity these days (bring back the Krankies!)

Sally Bercow - that is not a celebrity...being the outspoken wife of the Speaker is scraping the barrel...and not wishing to riducle the typical BB viewer - theyre going "Who?"

Tara Reid is the token Hollywood "star"

Theres a few in there that are only famous for being on previous reality tv shows

Cant wait for the next Get me out of the Jungle series...what celebs can they rustle up??

I tend to look at te list and feel embarrassed if I recognise the names of more than 2, irrespective if I know the cause of their noteriety. Ditto if I'm at the dentist and I look through Hello etc, I can go pages and not recognise any names.

imho the word 'celebrity' is over-used to the nth degree. to my mind a celebrity is someone that most people would recognise in an instant.

celebrity big brother.......completely mis-named!

Logicially anyone that has been in the public eye is a celebrity. That old bat who put the cat in the dustbin last year could fit in the 'celebrity' bracket.
