I am putting this question in again as nobody seemed to see it in Environment
and it only stayed in the latest posts column for a couple of seconds! Everybody seems to look on ChatterBank......
Where is the best place to go to see beautiful Autumn colours (within an easy day's reach of the East Midlands) We have already done Westonbirt (truly beautiful!) is there anywhere similar and which week in October/November would be the best time to view?

Best place for autumn colours is New England. Truly beautiful, but a bit too far i fear.

New England? I wish!!! Would love to go there but sadly out of reach of my bank balance - best I have is a calendar with New England views on (SIGH)

I doubt there's anywhere quite as good as Westonbirt, as they have the national collection of acers there, all red and gold. Gorgeous, aren't they?

Thanks jno - may try Sherwood Forest, not far from us but never been. Has anyone been in the Autumn - is it worth going to see the trees changing colour?

Would advocate any of you to make the pilgrimage to Vermont/N Hampshire/Mass/Connecticut once in your life time. The colours are truly awe inspiring.

sorry, I haven't - I've been pondering that list myself since I found it. I'm in the south east so there are some ideas there.
