nannybooby you have said it >> we live in the middle of nowhere <<

for the past few years i could have had as much as i wanted , my friend's brother was/is a tree surgeon and they can't get rid of it
I use the term free wood because I don't pay for it, I use old wooden pallets that are no longer any use from work and we are lucky enough to live in a semi-rural location, so a walk in the countryside offers up plenty of broken branches etc, I also look on freecycle where people post offers of scrap wood, trees that have been cut down that they want rid of etc, it's out there just need to know where to look.

Ah right Bobbi!
I'm with BG ... Had a projected spend of just one fuel of over a thousand for a year! BG did do wall insulation for us though on an offer this year ... free to those on any benefits .. cost us 50.00 which is well subsidised! I'm hoping this will keep my bills down this year!!
Bobbisox they are brilliant, I would recommend them to anyone.

Jumpers. They are the answer. And socks. Cashmere ones are the best, but if you're that hard up, any thick ones will do ;-)
