Infertility Issues - IVF procedures

Hi all, my husband and I have recently found we are going to have to go through some sort of IVF procedure to have children. The problem isnt me its him. Has anyone gone through this? and know whats involved. I am 21 and my husband is 38, will we get accepted? I really want nothing more than an huge family (I am one of 5) Is this still possible?

Of course the regulations may be different in the UK, but my sister-in-law underwent IVF and was quite a bit older than you. She had more involvement as far as preparations and such...she had to undergo follicular stimulation a few weeks before her eggs were harvested. Her husband's participation was less complicated and completely painless, from what they told us.

Your ages probably won't be of concern, but you both will probably be required to undergo counseling beforehand- they'll explain the procedures to you and the costs involved, and make sure that you understand everything. In the US, the cost is probably the most prohibitive factor in IVF, as it isn't usually covered by insurance. If you can't afford more than one go-around with IVF, keep in mind that quite often it results in a multiple birth (my sister-in-law ended up with triplets!), so you still have a chance at a large-ish family.

The best thing for you and your husband to do is to meet with the fertility specialist and address all your questions and concerns. Talking to him or her together will probably help your husband to feel more at ease with the procedure. Good luck!

My partner and I are going to be undetaking IVF treatment next year I am 36 and my partner is 25. I was married for 17 years but I am divorced now, so this is a new relationship I already have 4 children. I was sterilised after my fourth child, because of my exhusband violent temper. He would force himself upon me when he needed. We have self referred our selves to a wonderful IVF clinic in Southampton. I have read the proceedure, and I must confess that I am quite nervous about it all, but at the end of the day what you get at the end of it all is the most wonderful magical thing you can ever experience.
