Update on dropping out of uni
15 Answers
Hi all, a while back I posted about me thinking about dropping out of uni, as I didn't feel it was the right thing for me at the end of it. After having a real hard and long think about it over the summer holidays, I am even more sure that it isn't what I want to do. I want to thank everyone that gave me advice and someone to talk to about this, as having impartial advice was crucial for me to reach this decision. All pros and cons have been considered and dropping out is whats best for me. I am now looking at different jobs and have seen one that really appeals to me so fingers crossed :). Just have to tell my mum now! Wish me luck lol xxx

She came and sat on the side of the side of the bed before I got up and of course I knew she wanted to tell me something. She came straight out and told me and then burst itto tears. We were able to have a good talk about it and sorted things out - she gave me a big hug and said - Will you tell my dad?
Good luk roxie - I'm sure taht everything will be ok and if its right for you mum will know

Well if you explain why you left and that it offered you no prospects that interested you and to get to that 'useless' end point a year or two down the line it would have given you a huge student debt I can't she that she has a valid complaint really. Maybe it will help to tell her your future plans in detail and sound excited I suppose there would be nothing worse than dropping out to do nothing and not attempt anything that would annoy her big time. If she knows your going on the better things and not waiting around before doing it I'm sure she will be ok.
When you have come so far, roxie, I don't necessarily agree with it. But may I make one suggestion - try and see if you can get your Uni to leave the door open for you to return and take up the course without too much penalty, so if you reconsider you haven't sunk all your boats. May help with the parental debate too!!! (shows a sign of maturity etc - waffle waffle).
Having a job is the main thing roxie. You have to have money to live on and the only way to get it is work. If I were your mother I would want you to be happy and if you are not happy at university then it is best to find out now before you waste any more time. I have always thought that you cannot tell your children what to do, they have to make up their own minds. I would have liked both my children to do different things than they ultimately did, but it is their life and their choice. They are both graduates but neither of them ever used their degree which after all is just a measure of intelligence.
Yes DT completely agree with you. I will talk to my personal tutor and see what my options are.
