Converting AU format Sound Files.

I have a number of AU Format Sound files each 1.01mb in size, on my computer.

They are stored in a Audacity_data folder.

I tried to convert these into MP3s with Switch Sound File Converter, but it won't allow me to.

Can anyone please tell me why?

Can you open with Audacity and 'save as' an mp3 format?
I expect the program does not support that format .. why should anything else support it?

Aah .. I think if all those are 1.01Mb in size, they are a reference file for the program .. not a music file.

The standard download of Audacity cannot write MP3 files because of licence restrictions. There is a free add-on called the LAME encoder which you can install as part of Audacity.
Not sure of the websites to get all this but I am using it regularly. Chuck or Buenchico can probably help more.

I have already set up the LAME encoder, before I converted some Vinyl tracks to MP3s a while ago.

Do you think these files were created when I last used Audacity?

I seem to recall that I get Au type files when I 'Save Project' in Audacity. I never do that now, I always write out to MP3 as the standard format.

Thanks anyway for the download and can I delete all those AU files from my computer, without ant risk involved?
