My sister's freesat remote control has no red button. How does she use interactive services?

Ah!

I was in the middle of typing a post when I saw (in the 'Latest Posts' box) that you'd replied to my questions.

What I was about to suggest has been confirmed by your answer. Your sister hasn't got a Freesat box. She's simply got a generic FTA ('Free to Air') satellite receiver.

ANY satellite receiver (even an old Sky one, with an expired card in it - or possibly no card at all) is capable of receiving all of these channels:

Your sister's box is an example of a generic FTA receiver.

Freesat boxes have this logo on them:

It's only those boxes which can receive the Freesat EPG, interactive services and the BBC iPlayer..

Chris
PS: The data for the services I've just mentioned is encrypted. That's why only 'proper' Freesat boxes can handle it (because they've got the necessary decryption software in them).

Freesat is a commercial service from the BBC and ITV. It makes money (through licensing agreements) from the sale of Freesat boxes and Freesat TVs. (That's why you'll never be able to get the 'extras' with non-Freesat boxes).

Thanks Chris - wish I'd posted sooner. I've spent hours scouring the Internet trying to find information. Not being technically minded, I've probably been reading the right stuff but not understanding it. However your answer makes sense to me and I'll pass it on to my sister.
