DVD RAM DIscs wear out?

I bought a DVD recorder and have been very happy with it until recently. With certain discs it is difficult to watch the beginning of a programme whilst it continues to record it.

This has always worked very well until recently. It only seems to happen with certain discs. I bought a pack of 10 DVD RAM discs when I bought the recorder a year or so ago, which I have recorded on and erased since. I was wondering whether the discs do eventually actually wear out? DO I basically just need to get some new discs?

Thanks
