if you've paid enough national insurance contributions you will get JSA(C) (contributory) and if you haven't paid enough, or when it runs out, you get JSA(IB) (income based). there are different rules for both, and the IB is means tested. you have to declare any work you do whilst signing on, regardless of what you receive.
