Thank you, that is BAR NONE, the best read I have ever had on this site. I did a Lotus Elise day at Thruxton a few years ago, and that was just the bog-standard car. All the turn-in points and apexes are marked with bollards. No comparison with F1, but on my last few laps (of 2 sessions of 7) like you I was really hooked up, and to my pleasure the instructor was no longer advising me. I even felt when I had the lap with him driving me that I had done, well nearly as well as him ! Exhilarating.



Just imagine driving a 2005 Renault, or one of the turbos when they were putting out 1000+ bhp.

Your very welcome, glad you enjoyed it. If I am honest, I actually enjoyed driving the Formula Lotus a bit more than the F1 car, because although it is much less powerful than the Tyrell, it is also smaller and lighteer, and it is easier to drive it at 10 10ths, and really feel like you are getting the best from it. In an F1 car, there is always that feeling that you are barely scratching the serface of what it is capable of, especially in just 10 laps, plus Mallory is simply not a big enough circuit, IMO for an F1 car, it doesnt have long enough straights to allow it to really flex its muscles! I have done many track days at Thruxton, its a great circuit, never done the Elise day, but I would like to.

My brother is a petrol head and I bought him race days at both Mallory and Silverstone. He loves Touring Car, as do I, and found the Silverstone experience one in a million. At Silverstone the top 5 drivers were allowed to race at the end of the day and he was in it. He reckons it was like nothing on earth. Impret-sir, I'm sure your description doesn't come even close to the actual sensations you experienced. Thank you for your posts, I loved them

Not sure what the quetion was but the answers sound interesting, Trackdays at Thruxton? sounds fun, have done a few at Goodwood years ago and that was enlightening. Makes you realise how completely different racing must be to the real world and that's not even touching the speeds and abilities of proper competitors.
