my solicitor tells me they no longer get involved in disputes.

As I pointed out to my ex when he wanted to stop paying for out son who was in full time education....he'd be paying a damn sight more if he were still living at home! As a parent you don't just cut off your kids because they turn 18, in my opinion it was far more important for my son to concentrate on his studies and not have to worry about money! He [my son] took great joy in telling his Dad to stuff his money, that he gave begrudgingly when he got his first job the day after he left college!
