Which socket do I use?

Just bought an Oral B electric toothbrush with two pin socket. Shaver socket in bathroom is quite aged and never used by me. It has two sockets 230v and 115v but I don't know which one to use. Help please!

That should, of course, have been a two pin plug!

I plug mine into an adaptor and charge it up in the kitchen...........don't plug it into anything in the bathroom.

Please be aware it takes a long time to charge up the first time.

Does it not say in the manual? I would imagine it would be the 240 volt one as this is the current in the United Kingdom.

Thanks Craft. Think I'll follow your example. Did think of getting an adaptor today but didn't. Yes, it says 14 hours for the first charge. Doesn't seem to make clear in the manual JB. Thanks for advice.

Yes that is correct. 14 hours is the right time for the first charge so do not be tempted to try your new toy out too soon. Also when using it make sure you run the batteries down totally and then charge them right back up again. That will make the batteries last longer.

240 is the norm .. The appliance will be built or switched for that voltage.

Thanks all. Going to err on side of caution and get an adaptor. Shaver socket could well be dodgy anyway so not worth taking risk. Your answers helped me make decision. Thought I was just being over-cautious :-)

You are going to love it though. 100% better than a normal one . i have never had to have a scale and polish at the dentist since I got one and I always used to have to have one.

don't worry about using the shaver socket. they have that few windings that they can't transfer enough power to do any harm. your appliance is designed to use this ammout of power - hence the long charge times,

It's going to be more dangerous using an adapter!

check on the bottom of the charging base, these things usually charge happily on between 90 and 250 volts, so either socket could be used.
My 240V socket has a bad connection so I use the 115V one with my stuff with no problems.

Thanks everybody. I did read the instructins carefully but they didn't seem to tell me definitively what to do. Was just a bit doubtful about the shaver switch in bathroom which hasn't been used for a long time, so I have gone the adaptor route which seems to have done the trick without mishap :-)
