And they wouldn't have except for the circumstances in which that phone hack took place. Here was a family worried sick about their precious missing daughter, the subject of an ongoing police search, whose phone was being hacked and messages being deleted therefore leading the family and the police to believe she was still alive. When this came to light the nation was outraged and quite rightly and if you think they will be living "the life of riley" then you should try putting yourself in their shoes. What NI did was amoral full stop. Think about it.
And BTW what's Nazi Germany, maimed soldiers, botched operations got to do with it, gina and twenty20. And Jake hit the nail on the head and did not miss the pint 2020, rather it is you who is missing the point.
BTW way does anyone know who's post got zapped and why? Thanks.

I also cannot understand the need for this enormous pay out.
Their daughter was murdered not by Murdoch or any member of staff at the News of the World, so it is not for the loss of their daughter.
It is simply because some sad person made them believe their daughter was still alive, and although it must have been very upsetting at the time, they should have now got over it with no lasting damage to themselves, it want make the unemployable, or have their house specially adapted etc, as in other claim for compensation cases.
No their is more to this huge compensation award, it was said that the parents had been accused of something, but what that has never been disclosed.

AOG, read EDDIE'S point 1. above, which explains better than I did why they got it. NI interfered in a police investigation FGS and you could say tampered with evidence. Absolutely they needed to be taught a lesson that that is an unacceptable way to behave, and a £2/3M payout might make them sit up and take notice.
