LEAVES GOING BLACK

We have a very large I think its called a codiaeum (Croton) in our garden and some of the leaves and stems have started to go black. Does anyone know what I can do to cure this problem. Thank you.

Just noticed, you said in the garden.
Its a houseplant so it is too cold for it.
