I've looked up a recipe that says you can coat the outer side of the panini in egg & put it in a 'panini grill' or a double grill (top & bottom) - I have neither, but it sounds nice. You're supposed to put the filling in before the coating, would it be too messy to just grill as norm on either side? or should I do it before putting the coating in and then just re-heat in oven?
Something I've done before. Make your sandwich...wrap in cling film and flatten down. Put in the fridge for half hour or so. Then pop in to beaten egg and fry. Very nice....eggy bread with a filling :-)
I`ve never made a panini, I`ve only had them from cafes. I`ve never seen them put egg on them when they`ve made them in front of me. A George Foreman grill would be perfect although a panini maker would apply more pressure when the lid`s down.
