I read today, one brand cost £7.11 a pack.
How can that be justified?

go for it, but I think the govenment are right to continue to make cigarettes less attractive, it may be too late for the defiant smokers who have dug in their heels and want to continue to ruin their health, but for the younger generation, there is hope that dependency on a dangerous chemical stick can be eradicated.
Why try to price people out of smoking? Lokk at the tax they contribute to the economy. Let them carry on, in fact encourage them!
The point is that making cigarettes expensive and putting daft warnings on the packets won't make a lot of difference. The only thing that we can do is educate young people of the dangers. If someone still wants to smoke after knowing how bad cigarettes are, why should they be stopped? Do you want to live in Demolition Man world where salt, swearing and sex are also banned to protect our health.
actually putting the price up has contibuted to a lot of people quitting, Im all for it. :)
Those people obviously don't know where to get cheap cigs. Nobody that I have spoken to would list too expensive as a reason to give up. Contraband cigarettes are too easy to find in Britain.

Must agree it's a good thing that kids won't be able to afford them, as a youngster we were practically encouraged to smoke, every film start had a cig dangling. And so many ads for cigs.
Yes, I did smoke, and yes , I have quit, and if I hadn't - £7.11 would scare me enough to stop I think.
